Hey! I’m just reading chapter 1 now. Here are my notes (I promise I won’t write my own novel in the future but this got me cookin’):   
  
Bloodthirsty robots

1\. I have to be honest and say that my initial impressions about people who relocate to California are of suspicion. I’ve traveled all over the state and it’s beyond beautiful in terms of landscape; God shows off there so it’s no wonder to me why it’s also such a place of deception and ugliness.

Hollywood. Celebrity. Beauty. Fame. Temples of greed, lust, and pride. Nothing in California is ever enough. Seems like a lot of people in California (I’m comparing it with NYC) are programmed people who, like Manson, probably came from all over the country, all over regular America, to a special land where they all wanted to have gold and be gold. They wanted to worship at the alter of self and succeeded. Live by the sword, die by the sword. A lot of bad things happen there and while I know I’m making sweeping generalizations, emotionally, I’m given to the belief that the atmosphere itself makes it almost impossible to be unscathed there. Bad company corrupts good morals.

2\. Landscape and juxtaposition of wealth and nothingness—in one of the richest places in the country, the homelessness is outrageous. Why? Who are the homeless? The hippies? The people who turn on, tune in, and drop out. They are insane and I wonder what natural occurrences caused that. I wonder if they’re demon possessed and or drug addicts. I wonder why they’re drug addicts. One person turns to meth, crack, fentanyl, whatever and another turns to acting. Modeling. Same, same.

3\. Hippies- free “love”—irony

The ones who “love” are the ones society through away or who threw society away, total pariahs. They believe anything. Mind control requires an initial investment. Manson could control them because they wanted to be controlled. How does control escalate? Sex orgies to blood orgies? Identity isn’t fixed; whatever makes us what we are can be swapped out. The killers gave Manson and the Family their undivided, unwavering devotion and could then be made to do anything because they became extensions of Manson. They were his hands and feet. Like what see on Stranger Things (re: Mind Flayer).

4\. Drugs/hallucinogens: portals to evil

5\. Sharon Tate: coveted and stunning yet demeaned by Polanski—this strikes me as personally interesting as a woman who’s always struggled with insecurity. Even Sharon Tate hated herself so much, she married Polanski who clearly didn’t love her. He didn’t honor her. Cherish her. She was just a messed up kid but he wasn’t a kid. I see a thread in Manson and Polanski. Among all of the powerful men in the mix at the time (maybe even now). Cosmic/karmic justice? Polanski made a joke about who’d die next and then immediately got the phone call about Tate’s death (and that of their unborn baby).

6\. Manson is an interesting case study in forensic and criminal/criminological psychology. Ultimately, though, he proves to me that anyone can become what he became. Anyone can be activated and be a catalyst for mass destruction. He is not special. His name means nothing to me any more than that of \*insert demon\* here. They’re all the same and they work for the same boss. You’re a “revert” to Islam, if I remember correctly. I’m a Christian. Either way, something we can’t see wants us dead. Takes great pleasure in getting us to kill ourselves and each other…just because. There is never a true motive. Evil does what it does because it can. What Manson did, as Joan Didion memorialized, was show that an era of innocence (my ass) was over. Death is mundane. Right after Vietnam, a time that changed the psyche of America, Manson brought the spectacle of death home. To me, essentially, the war created a tulpa. Manson made an entertaining show for everyone to watch and dissect (chase their tails) for decades.

6\. Do you think Manson was shaped to be evil or was born evil? Is evil born or made? I think it's a mixture of both nurture and nature, but ultimately more nurture. He was supposedly raped by an older boy at one point and then he did the same thing to another younger boy. This kind of rape seems to be self-perpetuating. It is why Satanists love pedophilia. They are literally inflicting an evil mental scar upon an innocent, a scar with a tendency to be repeated by the receiver later in life. Being raped did not help his sanity, that is for sure. I wonder had he not been raped whether he would not have been so bad.  Add to that negligent parents and institutionalization and you have a recipe for disaster. So in a way I don't think evil babies are born so much as made through their life circumstances. Yet there is some level of choice ultimately as well. Not everyone who is raped repeats the pattern.   
  
But Manson didn't seem to be playing with a full deck either. Just look at pictures of him, he looks nuts. And it wasn't just the drugs given his history. Drugs just seemed to aggravate the evil and help him spread it by controlling others to also be evil. They harmed perfectly innocent people too. Like that Buddhist guy who was nice to them and that innocent young Italian guy who was charged as a suicide but then the author finds out was likely also killed by the family. This is indeed evil. The question is whether they were born that way or whether something happened to them to screw them up along the way (including drugs). I think it is more the later, though brain chemistry one is born with also has it's role.   
  
The weird thing is that someone so evil could have been perceived as charismatic. Would someone like you or I perceive him that way?  Do you think you would see through it? Was his charisma contingent on some evil in others? I think spiritual/religious people might be protected from the illusion that is his kind of charisma. I often see right through political figures that others are obsessed with.

To me, essentially, the war created a tulpa" - interesting idea! and it was not a time of innocence. this country lost it's innocence a LONG time ago. The only war we were involved in that was just was the Revolutionary War. Every other war, including the Civil War, WWI and WWII were totally unjust. History is written by the victors and we've justified a lot of evil done.   
  
I am a revert to Islam, yes. And so I believe in Satan, as well as the Jinn (which can be demonic, though there are some that choose to submit to God and are thus saved in the end). But I feel like we are not so much born to evil as open up the gateway to it at some point. I also think people with terrible parents, the right brain chemistry and a traumatic past are more likely to be evil obviously. Almost "doomed" to be evil. This goes back to what I wrote on free will. Sometime's I think free will is very limited, to say the least. I'll post that again the next response as it applies to my thoughts on what makes someone evil.

1\. I was raised in CA until I was 9. Then moved to CT. It was a nice place to grow up because of the physical beauty and climate - which allowed me to play outside constantly. I hated Connecticut once I moved their, it was much more materialistic than California and I found it to be a culture shock. In CA we played outdoors, in CT everyone wanted to do things inside: video games and TV. People were very materialistic and snobby. The city Greenwich did not help matters though. Wanting to be somewhere that is beautiful isn't a sin. Though the prices of homes and living in CA is outrages. So those who move there now must have a lot of money. Love of money is more the factor in determining the evil. It's one thing to have money, but to love it above all else leads to many wrongs. As far as the whole Hollywood and San Francisco vibe, well, I think famous actors and homo lifestyle. I've never been interested in either. I couldn't care less about celebrities. I think very little of them. The type of people that go to LA seeking fame are I think what you are referring to as very materialistic and superficial. They must be willing to whore themselves out to rich Jews to get good positions.   
  
There is something to be said about warm beautiful climates and crime though. There is actually a study showing heat and crime being related. I also think that in places with nice weather, people show skin more. Which creates lust. But that is mostly Southern California. There are some nice conservative places in Northern California where there is less heat, less people and everything is more rural. Wine country.   
  
My parents didn't want me and my sister to be raised in California though. And I wonder if I would have turned out less introverted if had stayed in California. I don't know whether it was the age and having friends from birth in CA, but I feel like as soon as I moved time kind of stopped and all the sudden I became aware of living life looking from the outside in once I moved to CT. I also was rather depressed, especially at first having lost friends and finding it hard to make friends in snobby Greenwich. Greenwich had a very materialistic culture too. I remember this kid whose dad was a banker making fun of me because my dad was an airline pilot. Very silly. If I knew what I knew about usury then as I do now I would have had a better response than I did.   
  
2\. Liberal states (with their high taxes) all have serious issues of homelessness and CA is very liberal. Despite acting like they care about poor people, they have a way of being run down by homelessness and unable to effect decisions that actually helps homeless people. I live in Colorado and ever since COVID the amount of homeless people is insane. Yet taxes here are crazy. Our infrastructure sucks, we don't even have trains to the airport or to Denver, so where does the $$$ go to??? I think part of the Homeless epidemic has to do with drugs and the closing down of mental institutions. Even drugs like pot can push someone who is susceptible to schizophrenia over the edge into a full on psychotic break. A lot of homeless people should be in institutions because they aren't right in the head. Half of homeless people are talking to themselves and in a totally different world. Homeless people also can be addicted to gambling or prostitution and unable to control their spending. I think drugs can lead people to possession. In the case of Manson and family, they were definitely possessed by evil spirits, or just downright psychotic. I have no compassion for any of the people who did those things, they all deserve life sentences. There is the possibility though that something like MK-Ultra was performed on them, using LSD. I'll leave it at that until you get to later chapters. But still, they put themselves in the situation to take the drugs around Manson who clearly looks insane so still, very bad judgement.
