Moderation Policy

Last Updated: February 12, 2025

This Moderation Policy ("Policy") governs the moderation practices and procedures on soj.ooO (the "Platform"). The Platform operates as an interactive computer service provider under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, 47 U.S.C. § 230, facilitating user-generated content while empowering community-led moderation through designated moderators.

1. Platform Status and Legal Framework

soj.ooO explicitly operates as an interactive computer service provider and platform within the meaning of 47 U.S.C. § 230(f)(2). We do not act as a publisher or speaker of user-generated content beyond the scope required by law. The Platform provides tools and infrastructure for communities to self-moderate according to their established guidelines, with minimal intervention from soj.ooO except where required by law or in cases of sustained moderator negligence.

In accordance with Section 230(c)(1) of the Communications Decency Act, soj.ooO shall not be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider. This includes, but is not limited to, all user-generated content, moderator decisions, and community guidelines established by section moderators.

2. Moderator Authority and Autonomy

Section moderators ("Moderators") are granted plenary authority over their designated sections, subject only to applicable laws and the technical limitations of the Platform. This authority includes, but is not limited to:

  • Establishing, modifying, and enforcing section-specific rules and guidelines
  • Taking any moderation actions deemed appropriate within their sections, including but not limited to: content removal, user warnings, temporary restrictions, and permanent bans
  • Determining the appropriate escalation procedures for their sections
  • Appointing additional moderators or removing existing moderators within their sections

Moderator decisions within their respective sections are final and binding, subject only to the moderators' own appeal processes, if any. soj.ooO will not intervene in or override moderator decisions except in circumstances outlined in Section 4 of this Policy.

3. Reporting and Escalation Procedures

The Platform maintains a strict hierarchical reporting structure to preserve moderator autonomy while ensuring appropriate handling of serious issues:

A. Primary Resolution Path

All reports, complaints, or concerns must first be directed to the relevant section's moderators through the designated reporting channels established for that section. Users must exhaust all available moderator-level reporting and appeal processes before seeking Platform intervention.

B. Documentation Requirements

Users seeking Platform intervention must provide comprehensive documentation demonstrating:

  • Multiple good-faith attempts to resolve the issue through established moderator channels
  • Clear evidence of repeated, systematic failure by moderators to respond to or address legitimate reports
  • Timestamps and documentation of all attempted communications with moderators

4. Platform Intervention

soj.ooO reserves the right to intervene only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Documented, systematic failure by moderators to respond to reports of illegal content or activities after multiple good-faith reporting attempts
  • Clear evidence of sustained moderator inactivity resulting in unmoderated illegal content or activities
  • Compliance with valid legal orders, subpoenas, or requirements under applicable law

Platform intervention will be limited to the minimum action necessary to address the specific issue and maintain compliance with applicable laws. The Platform explicitly reserves the right not to intervene in any other circumstances, including but not limited to disputes about moderation decisions, community guidelines, or content removal.

5. Legal Compliance and Liability

In accordance with Section 230(c)(2) of the Communications Decency Act, no provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be held liable on account of:

  • Any action voluntarily taken in good faith to restrict access to or availability of material that the provider or user considers to be obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent, harassing, or otherwise objectionable, whether or not such material is constitutionally protected
  • Any action taken to enable or make available to information content providers or others the technical means to restrict access to material described above

This protection extends to both the Platform and its designated moderators acting within the scope of their moderation duties.

6. Amendments and Updates

soj.ooO reserves the right to modify this Policy at any time. Any changes will be effective immediately upon posting the updated Policy on the Platform. Material changes will be announced through appropriate Platform channels. Continued use of the Platform following any modifications to this Policy constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
