I appreciate you taking time to explain your approach to faith. I used to speak Arabic. My mentor was Palestinian. She and other Muslims I met along the way have always been nothing but kind to me. IMO, we’re related. It’s like we’re cousins. You and your family would always be welcome at my cookout. lol 🫶

Of course. Why did you learn Arabic? Do you still remember much? My best friend died 5 years ago from alcohol poisoning (he was very much an alcoholic). Talk about attracting crazy people...we actually met at a cognitive behavioral therapy residential clinic when we were 22. I was there for depression, he was there for alcoholism. That place was a blast though, I made so many good friends at the nut house and have nothing but fond memories. He was always drinking when I hung out with him yet he was brilliant and able to function very well. I loved him very much as the brother I never had. Other than friends from the Masjid, who sometimes seem just so much more normal than me, I've had a hard time making new friends where I'm at. So, thanks! If you were my neighbor we certainly would show up to your cookout =) I hope you have a great New Years, BTW!

I studied it in college and in the army. I can read and understand more than I can speak. I’m very sorry about your friend. I guess it comes with the territory at our age (don’t know how old you are but I know a lot of people leave us starting around a certain time frame). I’ve lost family members and didn’t grieve—no love lost. But I can’t imagine losing a friend. In my faith, we say, “Memory eternal.” I’m glad you remembered him today and told me about him. Now, I can pray for him too. God willing, you’ll see each other again. Happy New Years to you and yours. Many blessings in 2026!
