I think @deletejuice has done a great job in detailing the prophecies.   
I found Islam a month before the start of the pandemic, and this concept of prophesied decline and defeat was almost impossible to decipher. Mainly because although this message has also been sent by God, through David and Jesus before, it's something that most westerners only hear in passing, without much explanation.   
  
Jesus (peace upon him) said nearly the same thing in Mathew 5:5 "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth" and David (peace upon him) said the same in Psalms 37:11 "But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity". The Latin and Hebrew words for meek have also been translated as the humble, the gentle, the ones who mourn.   
  
Islam just gives more details so we see that it's not only in a spiritual sense of inheriting the earth after the day of judgment, but also in a literal sense, after the battle of Armageddon.  
  
According to prophesies in the hadith, the abridged version of the end of days goes something along these lines:  
  
Moral decline and excessive materialism in humanity, not just muslims. Glorification of immorality and public indecency, the inability to distinguish men from women, Arabs making tall buildings, tunnels around Mecca, and a few other very specific prophesies have already passed.   
The emigration of 70,000 jews from Iran to Israel, also already happened.   
  
An increase in the number of declared or born muslims but a decline in the number of muslims who live righteously. Muslim countries become helpless and weak. Attacked from outside and civil wars within muslim countries.  
  
When Jerusalem is constructed (probably a reference to when Solomons temple is rebuilt) it leads to the defeat of Medina, which, given its importance to Muslims means theres a large scale war on Muslim countries.  Medina is emptied for 40 years with grand building but no humans, and domesticated animals turn rabid. The last 2 humans in Medina will be dead by the time they reach the city borders. The way that it's described sounds similar to radiation poisoning to me.   
  
Around the same time, we are told to expect the anti-christ, or Dajjal as he's known is Islam. In Islam the anti-christ or Dajjal would perform magic like bringing rain to drought plagued areas, increasing crop yields, and cutting a man in two and then putting him back together and making him alive again. He would also seem to bring back to life the dead parents of some people. He would claim to be the promised Messiah and he will be blind in one eye. Due to his magic most jews would accept him as the Messiah and many Christians would think of him as the second coming of Christ. His will conquer the middle east and reign would last almost 1 year and 4 months.  
  
After this the real Jesus will return and kill the anti-christ Dajjal and all the surviving Christians, Muslims and other believers would accept Jesus as a prophet of the one creator God and become one nation of humanity under his leadership. And at that moment Gog and Magog will be unleashed and will conquer the lands and kill almost everyone other than people "living in fortresses" and hiding in mountains. There will a thousand of them to every human. (Some people think they're a subterranean race but I think they'll be aliens.)  
  
At some point Jesus will pray to God for relief and all the Gog and Magog will die simultaneously from a "worm" in their necks. Sounds to me like war of the worlds and world War X both copied this version for their story lines.   
  
Anyway, back to the prophecies. The death of Gog and Magog will usher in a new era with humanity living as one nation under the leadership of Jesus who will get married, have children and die a natural death. This will be a time of great prosperity and peace since all humans would be united. And this is the time frame when "the meek shall inherit the earth" for many years.  
  
(That was the Ahhhhhh moment for me right there.)  
  
So yes, true muslims, those of knowledge and faith, know that Muslims as a whole will face moral decay and then military defeat, followed by a horrific annihilation at the hand of non-muslims, the anti-christ and then gog and magog.  
  
And we know that just like good muslims suffer and get defeated, good people also suffer horribly. But in Islam its not because God needs human suffering for salvation. No, rather it's because it's a test of our faith. To have faith when confronted by the most irrational of evil, secure in the knowledge that no matter how bad it gets for us or for others, it's a test of our faith, our belief that this life is temporary and superficial and God is just and kind and will compensate the believers who have done good deeds.   
  
And understanding the last paragraph above... that made all the difference to me personally. Because my issue with God had always been how he could allow suffering of the innocents. And now I had an answer. Quran says that our entire lifespan will seem like a few hours when our souls are woken up from the sleep of death. And those that maintained their faith and did good deeds would be the ones who knew it was all temporary and superficial and what seems like defeat and suffering are just temporary tests.   
  
My apologies for such a long answer, but I thought it might shed more light on the grander concepts of the questions you asked.

Assalam walaikum...

The question of whether the ummah (Muslim community) will start to normalize with it's moral enemies &amp; global degeneracies such as liberalism, hedonism, transgenderism etc is not a thing of speculation but rather certainty. Meaning we already know that the ummah will be going that way since our Prophet (SAW) already told us about it and is part of the many of his prophecies that he made during his lifetime, all of which have either come true or waiting to happen.

With the rise of "progressive" Islam in many parts of world with female imams leading prayers, compassionate imams refusing to speak against Zionists, gays declaring Islam is pro LGTV, women in hijab running OF accounts, muslim teenage boys normalizing use of drugs, promotion of haram activities through TV shows amongst muslims, increase in Zina (sex outside marriage) &amp; divorce (although lower than non-muslims), women becoming bread winner &amp; the head of the family while the husband waits for GTA6, etc - the wheel of destruction is already set in motion. It's just that since our scriptures are preserved to the core (physically, orally &amp; now digitally) and that we still have an entire generation of masculine men and feminine women, that we are able to speak out against the moral decline unapologetically &amp; sensitize our muslims brothers and sisters about the truth.

But with time, this stronghold will fade away and only the ones with true iman will remain. I am seeing this myself in my own family and in muslims around me. I will present you some sahih (authentic) marfu (directly attributed to the Prophet SAW) hadith which speak about all that's happening right now and/or will happen in the time to come.

%%The Ummah will grow in number but be spiritually hollow, lacking true faith, courage, and commitment to Qur'an &amp; Sunnah:%%

*“Soon the nations will call one another against you as diners call each other to a dish.”*

*The companions asked, “Will we be few in number then, O Messenger of Allah?”*

*He replied: “No, you will be numerous, but you will be like the foam (scum) of the sea. Allah will remove fear of you from the hearts of your enemies, and cast weakness (wahn) into your hearts.”*

*They asked: “What is wahn, O Messenger of Allah?”*

*He said: “Love of the world and hatred of death.”*

%%True guidance, sincerity, and adherence to divine commands will vanish:%%

*“There will come a time upon the people when nothing will remain of Islam except its name, and nothing will remain of the Qur'an except its script. Their mosques will be beautiful, but empty of guidance. Their scholars will be the worst of people under the sky; from them will emerge fitnah (trials), and to them it will return.”*

*“There will be people among my Ummah who will recite the Qur’an, but it will not go beyond their throats. They will leave Islam as an arrow leaves the bow.”*

Yes, you are right it's meant as a test and love for the world means just that - love for materialistic things in this temporary life on Earth while disregarding the hereafter which is permanent &amp; eternal.

When Muslims were sincere, united, and submitted fully to Allah, even powerful empires feared a small army of Sahabah (followers of the Prophet SAW) and history is a testimony to this. That “fear” wasn’t just physical - it was a spiritual awe, because Muslims were seen as principled, just, and unstoppable in their belief. When that sincerity and moral strength disappears, Allah allows the enemies to lose that awe and become bold, attacking and humiliating Muslims. This is what is meant by *"Allah will remove fear of you from the hearts of your enemies..."*

*"...and will cast weakness (wahn) into your hearts"* means that when things will get hard, the people obsessed with comfort, status, and luxury will lose their will to sacrifice, to struggle for truth, and to stand for Allah. This shouldn't be seen as a "punishment" in the vengeful sense, but rather as a natural consequence and a divine wake-up call. Allah allows them to taste humiliation - not because He hates them, but to push them to return. And we know this from Quran 13:11 - *"Indeed, Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves."* Hardships, trials &amp; tribulations of life are meant to bring us closer to Allah.

Even in this decline, there’s a hidden mercy of Allah - that we are already warned ahead of time by the Prophet ﷺ. These signs are like road markers before a cliff. When we see these conditions, we’re not helpless, rather we realise they’re a call to taubah (repentance), to reform and to revive the deen (religion).

And btw, the quotes that I mentioned earlier in my reply are a part of Hadith which are the narrations of the Prophet ﷺ, which is why they are mostly in conversational form. There are many such narrations but the scholars reject most of them since they lack a valid chain of transmission (it's a part of science of hadith). So I mentioned only the authentic ones. On the other hand, Quran is the direct revelation from our creator, where Allah speaks with the reader in first person, unlike any other holy book present today.
