Yea I will definitely have more questions once I begin looking and shopping around seriously. But for now, i basically am in agreement with you, im looking for a Toyota or Honda due to my experience with both car companies being positive. I live in CT, I personally like older cars as well, I do plan on buying a fairly newer model Toyota or Honda though, probably not brand new but within the past 3 to 8 years old, just as long as the mileage is low and the car has been in no previous accidents, no matter how minor it claims it to be. Im not trying to spend a good amount of cash just to find im putting money into it right away from the rip, or im dealing with a car that is like loosing antifreeze constantly. I had a couple high mileage cars (a Nissan maxima and VW jetta) which were both like going through coolant everytime I drove it, and if I didnt put it, I ran the risk of the car overheating while I idled at a stop light, it was like it was mixing in wity oil i believe, brcause it wasnt obviously leaking anywhere. Except I do believe thr VW did have a cracked radiator eventually after sliding into a snow bank during a really heavy winter, and I think after I replaced it it just necer was the same, it was going thru coolant like crazy. So anyways I want to get sometying that I can take care of, low mileage, preferably one owner, keep up with all the maintenance and what not, and be the one to put a majority of the wear and tear on the bitch. But car prices recently have been crazy, even for cars with 160 miles, 10 years old, you are gonna spend 5000

The Maxima and VW had cracked head gaskets, your coolant was leaking into your engine and being blown out your exhaust pipe. Being up North, you have to do a lot of pre inspection work, always be on the look out for rust. Not being funny but if you can come down South to buy a car, I would do that, cars down here don't have the wear and tear that mountains, salt and snow put on cars. I would try and find a car older than 3-8 years, cars recently have become crap, too many electronics. I have an 01 Chevy Truck with 398k on the original motor and a 02 Chevy Tahoe with 280k on the original motor. Between saving money on no car payment and cheap insurance, if something breaks I usually have the money to fix it. And if nothing else, I can get a motor or transmission for those vehicles and keep the vehicle on the road.

Ok I would get a car older then 10-15 years i hsve no problem in that and agree with you about newer vehicles seeming to be shit, just i am concerned when getting an older vehicle with high mileage. Im was thinking low mileage due to the amount of maintenance usually required as the car begins to reach 150 thousand miles, and i know most cars over 10 years old are going to be high in mileage. If I was more familiar with cars and comfortable with doing my own repairs I wouldnt be worried about it just i am not as knowledgeable as yoy seem, which im sure you're able to keep up with any minor repair yourself as needed. Do you think i am still better off finding an older vehicle? Or do you suggest trying to find an older vehicle that was like driven once a week to bingo by some old guy? Thats kind of my thought process currently, but I know older cars with less mileage exsist, but they are not always thst easy to find, and as of traveling down south to buy a car, its unfortunately not plausible wity my current situation of relying on uber or others to help me get around currently. Either way I just need to get something soon, and I got probably 8 thousand in cash to pay upfront currently, which isnt bad, and it gives me many options but as I said im really just trying to avoid getting a lemon that turns out to be more problems then not, which is why im debating getting a car loan, I can get one through my credit union and the rates aren't terrible, just im not sure i want to be locked in some 300 /400 dollar a month payment for the next 4 years

If you have 8k saved up that is really good. You should be able to find yourself a good car for that amount of money. Well, down here you would be able to, I'm not sure about the car market up there. Do you have any local used car dealers? I would just pay attention to their inventory and go talk to a sales person. You can buy the car before the dealership does a wash and cleaning on it, you can in general save some money. Youtube is a great place to learn how to work on your vehicle, but with that said, you do need tools and a place to work on the vehicle. Reach out to friends, family and your community to see if anyone has an older car like you said with "easy" miles on it like to the Bingo hall or what not. I just bought that Chevy Tahoe for 3,500 but it did need some work and I have a good mechanic buddy of mine that lives in the neighborhood. Start looking, this time of year is slow for dealerships because most people aren't buying cars. If Trump gives out the 2k stimulus, cars will go up in price soon afterwards. Keep that in mind.
