That's fine but it doesn't ans the question and I don't think SEO is dead or will be dead anytime soon. It's still the core of tons & tons of businesses making huge money. Same goes for Google search, it's still the default search engine in android and the go to for majority including me. Only when I need to research on a topic do I use other platforms & engines like DuckDuckGo, wayback machine, odyssey, etc. AI overviews are only useful for quick information consumption, but to use a service, platform, product or directory - AI overviews can't help. Even if we consider AI overviews providing links to such services/products, they have to prioritize some sources over all others which they will do through SEO. Also, search volume calculation or web crawling has nothing to do with AI. All I know is that there's some involvement of google as in they do share search volume data through google keyword planner. But I don't know the exact infrastructure that it follows or how to replicate an MVP of semrush.

I've wrestled with SEO and making sense of it all since 2012, there is no magic. Semrush and ahrefs know nothing more than anyone else. And SEO is already dying. Google isn't going anywhere, and that's the point. They are actively killing niche sites and independent sites, and they will become the only source of information. I've gone through my story ad nauseam on other platforms, so not going to retell it here. But most of us niche site owners and independent site owners have been damaged by Google's new AI search, HCU updates, and other recent updates that are designed to elevate Reddit results and push down all others. Apologies if my ranting comes off in a bad way, it's not directed at you....the entire topic gets under my skin....so I rant. LOL Best of luck!

Yea, it's true that they are killing independent sites and its been a problem since a long time. I am also not a big fan of AI overview and in fact I have disabled it on my web browser. But what I am saying is that while we may be sane enough to recognize this and use other engines depending on our use case, but the vast majority of sheeples won't and will continue to use Google search. Very evident from the fact that majority of people never switched to duckduckgo or brave as their default search engine even though it's now a public knowledge that google steals and sells our data. And the reason why I am interested in understanding the working of semrush is that I came across a small business/startup called clicks.so who have created a basic version of the highly expensive semrush with a subscription model. They are at $200k ARR with just a 2 member team. So that's why I was intrigued to know how simple or complicated the entire infra is.
