Hi! First of all, no, your line of thinking actually fits exactly with my own understanding of Islam. Quran is filled with phrases like "if you only understood", "how could you know", "Allah knows and you do not know" etc Quran is very clear that God doesn't need our worship and if we obey his commandments it's only for our own good. I liken humans to 2 year old toddlers that love to poke their fingers into every socket. Adults can't really explain electricity and conduction to them so you Seal the sockets or smack their hands away till they're out of the danger age. The toddlers probably think you're evil for denying them but it's out of love. On a side note, feeding birds is a super Islamic thing to do. There's a tradition that a prostitute will be forgiven because she used her shoe to scoop water out of a deep well to offer a thirsty dog. And I was shocked when I read Quran 6:38 and saw an explicit statement that all creatures and birds are communities like humans and will return to God. Till then doggy heaven was just an awesome Disney concept and it kinda shocked me to see it in the 1500 old Quran. There are at least 3 other verses which say birds did God's will by attacking an evil general, spoke to and helped Solomon, provided food to Moses and the Israelites. A few other verses that says that the flight of birds is one of the signs of the lord. Peace!

This reminded me of a beautiful hadith: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “If you were to rely upon Allah with reliance due to Him, He would provide for you just as He provides for the birds. They go out in the morning with empty stomachs and return full.”
