Thanks for your time. I get twisted up in knots when trying to parse all the modern theological handwaving away of literal interpretations of what was said in the New Testament particularly, as something like “well, a generation is actually just the entire second half of human history” and such. I will check out the talk you mentioned. I probably don’t belong in this group because I’m unsuccessfully trying to convert myself to Christianity but I do keep trying.

Absolutely, and yes, I get it, the lengths people go through to make sense of their biases are insane. The little season perspective of things will help. with that And please, you belong here if you are trying to become a follower of Christ ("Do or do not. There is no try” - Yoda 😁). It's hard for everyone and takes patience though, took me like, 5 years to go from atheist to being ready to even think about God, and then a year to truly accept Him. But the journey is absolutely worth it. I will just say, step one is you don't convert yourself, you have to let go of your former self and let Christ convert you. It's by His strength and grace we are saved. Well, yes, I said it that way for brevity, though it does kind of reflect my attitude towards it. Of course it’s Christ who does that work. I know a lot about the faith, grew up “in it,” just never had it for myself. And whatever spiritual organ responsible for faith seems entirely unresponsive. But hey, I keep showing up, for my family if nothing else.

Gotcha, and right, what I meant by that kinda is there is understanding something intellectually, and there is knowing it deep in your heart. If you feel as though you are trying to force it and failing. That's a reflection of the heart faith. I don't know you to know what you do or don't know intellectually, but words are power. God created the entire world by His Word, and that Word is Jesus Christ! (John 1)
