Common society is a joke. It works like this: The more success you have by common standards the more gullible you get. One starts to think the thousand lies are true, one really wants them to be true, one gets very angry when they are questioned. That last component is what seals the brainwashing, programming the person to think they haven't been brainwashed is the second last step, the last one is to program the subject to stop thinking and get angry.

Everyone in common society imitates the other monkeys and hopes they get it right enough not to be embarrassed. The truth is that embarrassment is only appropriate if you've done something stupid. You should be embarrassed if you've imitated something stupid but if you are unable to question the proverbial dress code you don't even know.

No one should get to define for you what you consider success. They can pretend but they don't know what the meaning of life is. It's nice to have some kind of goal and travel towards it but the goal isn't important, the journey is.

Take Jadav Payeng, he got the 4th highest honor from the indian government, everyone praises him for planting a bunch of trees, every day since 1979, something like a million of them. They call him forest man. The island is being flushed away by erosion and Jadav tells people they can plant coconuts, save the place, make money. No one listens of course. They do praise him with all kinds of awards but he is still broke as fuck and I just read the government had to pay for his medical treatment a few days ago. It's just not normal enough to plant trees. That it makes sense to do it for many reasons doesn't mean normal people will adopt it into the normality.

I'm not damaged, I observe in awe. The world is like a big man robbing a small man then beating him with a stick. The crowd arguing that it is really in the small man's best interest and that the big man is helping him. I'm looking at it like... wtf??? Then the small man says thank you and gets another beating, thank you thank you! I can take away the stick whenever I like and beat the big man as long and hard as I like but why? The small man doesn't want it to stop, the audience thinks it's wonderful. Who am I to interfere? Let everyone enjoy this wonderful interaction. LOL

on How to "exit" software development in positivevibesonly

It's great to hear it makes no sense. Let me try clarify...

In any job you have your basic tasks. As you do them many times you develop all kinds of small insights, use a different or extra tool, different resources or materials, change the order of the tasks. You develop a feel for things. Besides the basic tasks there are irregularities or exceptions that happen infrequent or rarely. If you've seen those before they also get easier to deal with.

Some of the tasks require documenting them, some require looking things up. You can make an app that for example just dumps all open tasks into the viewport. One can certainly scroll to the right task click on it, fill out the start date and time, your full name and employee number, the number of other employees on it, more names and numbers. etc

If you've done the job 1000 times you know which task to start with. As an employee in a big company you can ask for that task to be put at the top of the list. You get a discussion about how necessary it is to have it at the top. It probably wont happen. You've wasted everyones time?

If it is your own shop, after opening the task, you could fill out the date and time automatically, as you are using the app it is safe to assume you are the one doing the task and we know your employee number too, that leaves the info about the other employees but you should have some work schedule that already has that information. But wait! We have geolocation too! The app can know when you arrive and send a notification asking you to press start.

In a larger company this would require 1000 hours of discussion where everyone questions your sanity for proposing all those expensive little things we don't really need. The conclusion might be that they don't want to spend time keeping track of individual tasks. In contrast, if done well it takes no time at all and you can chose to track smaller tasks.

The big company might have scheduling software that makes it really hard to import the number of people working on that location on that day. The software might not know the location at all.

If you are going to write everything from scratch you can structure the data so that it wont be a complicated thing to implement.

Examples are bad as they are easily confused for the subject but say you got a job washing cars. The app can tell you which materials to put in the car, have you count how many bottles or brushes are left. It can show you a map where to drive to. Describe what to do on location. (Say, ask for water) Complete the unpacking task. Instruct you what tool to use and how to assemble it with pictures and/or videos. Warn what absolutely not to do.

Then when done you pack everything back in the car, hit "depart" and the itemized invoice is send.

A long story short, the MBA will do everything in excell and do lots of busy work. The programmer can make it so that when the software is finished all work that remains is washing cars. Your head can be filled entirely washing cars. You don't even have to train anyone. All time is accounted for.

Then when you've perfected the software for your proverbial breakfast restaurant you take it to other restaurants and show it to them, live in action. Not some demo. The real thing.

on Where LLM could take us in tech

We still have to develop the vocabulary for the thing.

So far I gather that LLM's appear really good at things the user is unfamiliar with.

It is also good to offload some tasks that one normally wouldn't take the time for.

If you are wondering what the point is. There is non, in the long run we would definitely be better off living in caves, walking bare foot, exposed to the sun, swinging from branches, eating fruits from the trees around. Perhaps do a bit of hunting. We just had this irrational drive to keep all humans alive at the expense of all other life. Each solution brings new problems or it simply allows us to make enough humans to have a whole new set of problems. This is the plan our kind chose long ago and there is no way back. At least not until we gloriously screw up. We didn't need to read and write nor any of the other things but here we are doing AI because some wealthy people decided it was a good idea to make them more wealthy and preserve their spoiled children who never call. As soon as we put the LLM shoes on   our feet will grow soft and we will be unable to walk without them 🥸

Enjoy the ride

Sure, say we go to the 911 article.

While the source isn't good, removing the last remaining mention of asbestos is interesting enough to find an editor.

[https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=September_11_attacks&diff=prev&oldid=1364806341](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=September_11_attacks&diff=prev&oldid=1364806341)

We click on "contribs". They have ten thousand!

Could look at their mainspace edits, but with so many contribs lets look at their "filter log" .

In 2022 they template this

[Protection\_of\_Children\_from\_Sexual\_Offences\_Act,\_2012&diff=prev&oldid=1319031021](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Protection_of_Children_from_Sexual_Offences_Act,_2012&diff=prev&oldid=1319031021)

Not a very dubious edit, they even added a source but lets look at the dubious edit history.

We look at the article edit history and find this fascinating deletion.

[Protection\_of\_Children\_from\_Sexual\_Offences\_Act,\_2012&diff=prev&oldid=1319031021](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Protection_of_Children_from_Sexual_Offences_Act,_2012&diff=prev&oldid=1319031021)

The article now no longer mentions slavery nor trafficking. Facinating!

This editor has few edits and he also wrote [this](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abhay_(police_officer)) entire article about a person without mentioning their first name. Clear signs this isn't a seasoned wiki warrior.

**Now one has to go back and find a different branch of *"things we are not suppose to know"***

One could also look further, there is a whole article about the topic

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_trafficking_in_India

Oh, it's a pile of sadness. The numbers are all over the place.
*[Child\_trafficking\_in\_India#Figures\_in\_India](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_trafficking_in_India#Figures_in_India)*

Most important part missing is the risk to be downgraded to a tier 3 country for not doing enough*.* They apparently think scrubbing wikipedia should be part of the effort?

*Tier 3: The lowest rating, similar to a failing grade. Countries designated as Tier 3 fail to meet the TVPA’s minimum standards – and are also not making significant efforts to do so. At the discretion of the U.S. president, Tier 3 countries may be restricted from access to non-humanitarian, non-trade-related foreign assistance funding and participation in educational and cultural exchange programs. The president also has the power to instruct the U.S. representatives to the International Monetary Fund and other multilateral development banks to vote against and work to limit a Tier 3 country’s access to loans and other multilateral funds.*

Makes you wonder why they never talk about this on CNN!
