My post was a genuine question, because, like you, I associate "Jewish" with ugly. Which seems rather peculiar as I genuinely loath Islam, yet Islamic peoples produce distinct, artful architecture. To the extent I have any experience of Jewish households, to the extent they are decorated it seems to be simply imitative, a semblance of what they think someone else expects. And as I worked in building trades for several decades, I learned to tell the difference. One winter I helped set up public menorahs for a local synagogue and was struck by the complete lack of any attempt to make the menorah beautiful or even artful. The complete lack of a word of thanks afterward probably doesn't help my disposition on the matter.

simply imitative, a semblance of what they think someone else expects Ah, well said. I think of a certain Jew whose sole picture on his wall in the college dorm was of Michael Jordan doing a slam dunk despite his lack of interest in sports, lol. I know another Jew, whose house a group of guys I know had poker games at, who admitted he has no idea how to decorate and expressed being frustrated that he felt he had to bother with it. His walls are barren. Any nice sofas and chairs are all covered in uncomfortable white sheets to protect them and never used. Sheets over expensive light fixtures. Items in boxes, he is a hoarder, take up much space in his house and his decorations are often things he wants to sell. Despite having a ton of money, the area he entertains us in his basement, uses the cheapest Walmart make foldable tables, the chairs are all cheap and uncomfortable save his, because of his supposed "scoliosis" (he's always complaining about some ailment that leads me to think his issues are partially psycho-somatic in nature). I will say one thing though, at least his house was clean. Though I and a couple other people stopped going to his house for poker because during COVID he was one of those people who wanted everyone wearing masks and to be vaccinated.

I've perhaps a particularly unique experience with "Jews", the label being basically irrelevant to me during my childhood. At one point our area received an Israeli immigrant, quite Arabic in appearance, literally ingenious as an engineer, but, primarily a machinist, and actually quite inspirational to me. He was so unique that many people simply referred to him as "The Jew", quite without ill intent. Later on, someone close to me converted to Judaism and overnight began to take on the historic baggage of Judaism, ultimately leading me to research that history and determining it is all mythical and largely fictional. When Joe Biden was initially running for office I was working next door to a place where he was stumping, a private home, Jewish owned. Absolutely the nicest people you'd ever want to know. Polite, considerate, generous. And completely lacking in the characteristics I expect in an ordinary person. Their home was a nice place, but, literally everything was seemingly a covering, camouflage almost. Nothing whatsover about it could be described as whimsical, no element existed which revealed any trace of simple personal preference. It's quite odd. I have no idea if I'm projecting my preconceptions or perceiving something real. And if I am, I'm not at all sure what it is I'm perceiving.
