The Founding Fathers were against political parties, the two-party system was already a nightmare in England before the Revolution. However, they could not ban them outright as that would violate the part of the First Amendment relating to the right of assembly and association. The experiment was not only for a religious and moral people. It also required an informed and active citizenry.
