I'm getting whatever it works out to. Thanks though.

I get to be "responsible" for making the decision, then see the previous repairs as I clip each line and pull it out to confirm that's the right decision.

What makes my blood boil is that someone essentially redid the entire thing at one point, and didn't do it right. They absolutely wasted all that time and effort to patch up the system so they could sell it without actually improving it.

Every single thing I've done so far could have already been done and it would have lasted till after I'm dead.

Instead, I'm following after "licensed plumbers" who did a third of the work to put in THREE faucets for 5 GRAND without 'noticing' any of the problems I'm working out now.

I see it everyday. Licensed pros doing half-assed work for exorbitant pay, while I bat cleanup fixing problems that never should have existed to begin with.

Someone I know asked how I can just do all these things while trained professionals get Impostor Syndrome after completing their training.

I'm just a guy who figures things out. I don't go into it thinking I know everything. When I see something I don't know, it doesn't surprise me and make me feel inferior.

I ran into a MWBC recently. Not a common problem and it took me a while to figure out what was going on. But, because I didn't think I was supposed to already know, I just figured it out and fixed it the way the licensed electrician should have done it to begin with. The way the electrical inspector should have insisted it be done to begin with. And, unlike the "pro" I documented the peculiar circuit on the diagram so the next guy can understand what's going on without launching an investigation.

It's a freaky thing when you think about it. The only reason I can do this work is because licensed professionals are so often clueless and their inspectors are even less informed than they are.

There are times when I'm fixing problems a century or more in the making; but most of the time I'm dealing with stupid amateur level mistakes by professionals who were paid more to make the problem then I get paid to fix it.

It's my bread and butter, but it really pisses me off.
