The social security system ("SS") came to be due to the great depression. Let's not forget why the great depression even happened. It was a way to help the people (elderly) who, before SS, were dying because jackasses wanted to play monopoly with people's money. That was not the first nor the last time we would go through a rough period because of the financial (capital) market, never because of the labor force. I feel like people forget that the PEOPLE "humans" (poor, middle, upper class) are everything. We are the labor, creator, servicer, and the consumer. We keep your business (and ours) working to get paid and then use our payment to continue financing the market through consumption. If we did not work, nor consume, we would have nothing. So, is it too much to ask: why can't we have a balanced system of socialism and capitalism? Nothing is free, we pay for everything including SS. I am sure everyone has peeked at their paycheck and seen a deduction for SS and Medicaid. So many want to claim to be godly and yet have a problem with socialism.
