Why are so many planes going down in the world? Is the actually frequency of crashes higher? or just the frequency of reporting?

I agree with maze, right now "air disasters" are all the rage. For example the AZ incident of the private planes colliding would have never been more than local news last year or even this year if the DC collision had not happened. And honestly, you could make a similar argument for the Toronto crash, at least not getting as much coverage as it is getting now.

Exactly! The irony being that you would have thought the press would have lost their minds to hear that oh East Palestine is nothing we have a thousand derailments a year and instead their attitude was like oh this happens everyday cool we don't have to cover it!
