reaction formation (a Freudian defense mechanism) or sometimes projection, where someone unconsciously deals with an unacceptable impulse (like same-sex attraction) by exaggerating the opposite attitude or obsessively attacking it in others.

The idea is that if a guy keeps bringing up "men sucking dicks" in a derogatory, fixated way—especially repeatedly and unprompted—it could be a giveaway that the topic is occupying more mental space for him than it would for someone who's truly indifferent to it. The more someone fixates on denying or mocking a specific sexual act, the more it can hint that the idea is personally charged (anxiety-provoking, intriguing, shameful, etc.).

There's some research support for this pattern in at least a subset of cases:

A well-known 1996 study (Adams, Wright, &amp; Lohr) measured penile arousal in self-identified straight men while they watched different porn clips. The men who scored high on homophobia measures showed significantly more physiological arousal to male-male erotic videos than non-homophobic men did—even though they subjectively reported low or no arousal. This has been cited a lot as evidence that some homophobic attitudes may involve denied or unconscious same-sex attraction.

Later studies (e.g., ones using eye-tracking or implicit measures) have found mixed but supportive results in some subgroups: highly homophobic men sometimes show longer viewing times or impulsive interest in same-sex images, especially when other factors like internalized shame or authoritarian upbringing are present.

Broader psychodynamic views link intense, repetitive anti-gay rhetoric (especially graphic sexual stuff) to internal conflict.
