Funny how the “desert religions playbook” somehow skips the first 300 years of Christianity. Christians were the ones being fed to lions, burned, and crucified for centuries, with zero political power, and still spread across the Roman Empire through persuasion, charity, and martyrdom. No armies and no conquest. My own break with institutional Christianity starts in the fourth century, once it gained centralized power. I don’t defend how centralized powers behave. I’m more interested in the individual human condition. Human cultural progress has always happened in spite of the roadblocks created by centralized and often poorly behaving power structures, not because of them. Corruption of power isn’t proof against the original message. It’s just proof of human nature.

*Corruption of power isn’t proof against the original message. It’s just proof of human nature.* *It is just proof of human nature.* Human nature....or the very nature of God? Seems like the power struggle was already there....waiting for humans to recognize it....and perhaps do something about it? Peace.😇

I only know of the Biblical revelation of God's nature. Looking at human failure and blaming God seems more like an attempt to downplay human responsibility than to understand His plan. Too often, people judge Biblical texts without context and by modern cultural ideals and mistake human flaws for divine ones. The biblical narrative is clear, humanity is fallen. We exist in a broken world alongside fallen spiritual forces, offered a relationship with God that is simple in theory but difficult in practice. Your point about the power struggle, highlights why the fourth century shift is critical. For 300 years, Christianity thrived as an enemy of the state, spreading through sacrifice rather than coercion. When it was absorbed by the Roman Empire, it gained institutional power but lost its spiritual purity. That corruption wasn't the nature of God, it was the inevitable result of human beings trading faith for political control.

You could exchange the word Christian for Jews or Muslims also in your story. Desert religions have the same playbook. Claim victimhood. Slowly gain power. Become the dictator you have always been. Backdoor stuff like Stalin's pussy ass. Yes, humans have corruption at their heart. We are looking out for ourselves on this planet that will kill you and forget you.
