The trend is not just in the West. SA is also experiencing lower marriage rates etc. It used to take a decade for what was happening in the US to trickle down to SA, but the rise of instant comms has spread up this process. I spoke with my mom about this a few months back because I realised something... When I was a little girl, I was told to study and be a boss lady. Marriage and family was not a concept that was promoted to me as a child. I was not told about the spiritual significance of being a wife and mother. I got married at 22 or 23 and he walked out just before my 31st because he said he never loved me. As sad as I was at the time, I am grateful that I came back to my faith, I would never have walked back into a Church if I were still married. My mindset is different to the average woman my age (37 now) because I refuse to partake in proper social media, choosing to not expose myself to brain-rotting material. Both of my brother's wives have left my brothers in the last 2 years and have tried to take everything from them. Was at a Sacristan workshop yesterday and the Priest running the workshop said something profound, there has been an inversion of all that is good, beautiful and sacred. He specifically mentioned "lex orandi, lex credendi, lex vivendi", latin for "As we believe, so we worship, so we live" - this was what he said had been inverted. My thought is that the more people are told to focus on themselves and self-love/healing and doing "what's best for me", the greater this divide will become. We cannot change the world and most people do not want to hear that what they are saying is satanic (in the true sense of worship of self and not the devil) as it will trigger their sensibilities, but we can try and meet people where they are with love and mercy just as we wish them to approach us. It starts with approaching people and reminding ourselves that we are just the same sinner as they and knowing what they had not been exposed to in their life or even just that day. It is sad that statistics like these exist, but the problem is global. Gosh, not sure this essay explains much, but just my 2 cents.

Thank you! Not sure you explain much, you say? Your words and thoughts are very important, and welcome. I'd call this a letter, Ms Wendy. (In comparison, what do you call MLK's %%Letter From A Birmingham Jail%%? I'd say that is an essay.) Words are important. I'd like to talk to you more about what we can do to help women. As you said, women have been diminished as women in societies. At the same time, they are told by political offices they have been cheated in modern times. What your priest said to you is important, but maybe I did not hear it correctly--when he said there has been an inversion of all that is good. It seems to me, and I'm not a theologian, it is mockery to make this inversion of good/evil, and to then believe one is no different than the other. The truth is sovereign and GOD will punish us for doing it. That may have been the point your priest was making. If not, your priest could be affected; or showing more evidence of the problems in the churches. JK

What the Priest meant was the phrase of what we believe, is how we worship, is how we live is what has been inverted societally. He went on to elaborate that the push of the 'self' and being whoever or whatever you want to be (how we live) has resulted in this being worshipped and has now become the prevailing faith. He was definitely speaking in opposition to the ideology. We don't actually have the issue of super-liberal Priests in SA. I can only speak Catholic Churches in my country, but from what I can tell, we have not had many of the problems you guys have had in the US. The problem is not only that women have been taught to disconnect from the feminine, men have also been taught that it was not okay to be men. We are biologically hardwired a certain way and when you push the sexes to focus on the complete opposite, it creates a disconnect, leading to all these 'personality disorders' because we are all fighting nature. It results in the push onto medication, dulling the senses and ignoring our true purpose in life. We were made to worship God, some are called to marriage and that is beautiful. I think focusing on women to rediscover their purpose only solves half of the problem. The issue is wholistic and both sexes need to have their beautiful traits conveyed to them - again in a merciful and non-attacking manner. I have recently completed the 33 days to Divine Mercy reflection book by Matthew Kelly. Yes, it is written by a Catholic layman, but it does not contain the slew of Catholic practices and is easily digestible to the secular person as it speaks about certain issues we are currently facing. It was recommended to me by my spiritual director. It is a book I am recommending to everyone I know, because we are living in a world that has forgotten to be merciful. Going to head off to bed. Have a blessed day. Take care.

Thank you for writing! I hope you slept well and got some rest. I see you are working very hard on spiritual matters, and I hope you find peace, Ms Wendy. The problem I addressed previously, about your priest's teaching, is very important in regard to our responsibility as believers, in that it is 'on us' to not be mislead. We are responsible for what we accept as gospel. I raised the objection about your priest's conception of right and wrong, because I saw a problem with it held up to scrutiny with the scriptures. You have not answered this objection , Ms Wendy. It is not clear, anyway. Your recommendation of the work of Mr Matthew Kelly is another problem for me. I reviewed his work, and I know the character of his work. I studied Communication with Prof Lee Thayer at UW-Parkside in 1980. Prof Thayer was no Christian, and neither is Kelly, imo. I would say his oeuvre is a mix of 'New Age' self-help, and proto-christian=post modernist capitalism. He is paid very well by corporate/military organizations in the Fortune 500 group. To understand these things, Ms Wendy, you will need GOD's help. And you must delineate each of the elements I mentioned, and reconstruct them in proper order. The correct order is to place these leaders you mentioned in the trash. JK
