In early Republican Rome, only worthy men got to become fathers; he had to get the consent of prospective father-in-law, and the wife. They obviously would not grant it if they judged him to be anything less than outstanding husband/father material. Early Republican Rome was nothing like U.S. today. Not all men could become fathers/husbands. Not every men were considered equal, and deserved to become fathers/husbands. One of the biggest problem in today's world is that some fathers become what Nick calls, 'Girl Daddy', and this is not just limited to DEI/Woke crowd, but also many traditional conservatives as well. Tate actually had a very insightful take on this; he believes a father should advise his daughter whether he approve or not of her choice of men she wants to marry; she is free to reject it, and marry. Tate's take is once she marries the wrong man and is not happy; that's her problem. She rejected his advice, and she deserves to suffer. 'Girl Daddies', on the other hand, must interfere to save/defend his daughter from the consequence of her responsibility, and this is fully approved by both DEI/Woke and traditional conservative crowd. So, what's the consequence? It teaches young women not to take responsibility for her action, especially regarding men! It emboldens both potential abusers, and Dumbfucks, and discourages worthy, responsible men. Just like women get the right to vote, but no obligation to serve in the military; did it make the world a better place, like 1st gen feminist prophesized? We have this epidemic of entitlement; pater familiar from early Republican Rome could fix that.
