Simply put treating others the way I wish to be treated helps shape my moral beliefs on what's right and wrong behavior. If you consider that being selfish then I don't know how I can word it to change your mind.

No, I would continue to treat others the way I would like to be treated. I always run into shitty people, not much I can do about that but it doesn't effect my moral beliefs.
