To be honest, I don’t know—and from my perspective, I don’t really care in the sense that it doesn’t change the principle I’m working from. I see God as confirming “no compulsion in religion,” which is exactly why I don’t push it and why I don’t think anyone should. Faith and worldview should be an individual compass, not something enforced or pressured. Also, I tend to treat Muhammad—like Jesus—as an archetype, and I’m not interested in policing what either of them may have “pushed” outside their core scripture. For me, the anchor is what’s in the text: the Quran’s “no compulsion” principle, and passages like Quran 2:62 that point to God’s concern being sincerity and righteousness rather than coercion or forcing people into a label. So even if Muhammad or Jesus may have pushed at times, I don’t take that as a mandate for us to do so.
