The thing not mentioned in the article is the real reason for this foolishness. Chinese like to 'game' certain metrics to pretend that they are 'somebody', the proverbial 'keeping up with jonses' gone to the max. CCP has its own version of 'American Exceptionalism' aka 'Chinese Dream'; the problem is with 'American Exceptionalism', they didn't do it to 'game' the metrics to pretend U.S. was going to be a superpower. It was for real. (Here I am not talking about false American Exceptionalism popular with some, shall I say, too many Americans today.) CCP didn't do it, either, at least at the beginning. But they realized that this building boom had an effect on GDP, which they were using it, to give the appearance that PRC was going to surpass U.S. and become the superpower, that's when CCP started using the building boom, to game the metric, the GDP. Now, I read, at least 25% of GDP was based on this scam. If one were to include the opportunity cost lost, I dare say, half of GDP was illusion. All the resources wasted, could have been used for something far more productive. Not only that, these ghost cities have become potential political WMD for CCP. If anything happened to these ghost cities, CCP will have to bail out all the PRC people who have invested on this scam or else. Similar to what happened to Albania. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyramid_schemes_in_Albania Why in ROK, it became illegal for one person/family to own more than one primary residence home, back in 70s. Government knew this would suck the resources from more productive investments into visually spectacular, photogenic, real estate ventures/scams, that would destabilize the productive economy. Why in ROK, real estate never became the driving engine of GDP growth: The real superpowers in history never used real estate speculation as the foundation of their strength. It was either productive economy, and/or military might. Yes, U.S. too has this real estate speculation masquerading as positive economic force problem; I am not against real estate investment, building homes for people to live in, to work is one thing. Building homes so that speculators can borrow money to buy more, so that they can unload them to the next sucker, with no intention of living there, is a fool's gold. But Americans also have another delusion that Chinese do not have: This obsession with Zionist vanity fantasy project. This will eventually sink U.S. even without MIC, and NeoCon problems. Unfortunately, too many Americans are MIC fanboys, and NeoCon false American Exceptionalists, Free market fundamentalists, plus phony free marketers, actually working for kleptocrats, and plutocrats as well, and Zionist flunkies. Certainly not all Americans are created equal. Add to that, some dumbfucks think all white gentile Americans are equal! They are problems also, just different problems, but the problems nevertheless. They all pose as patriots. You know the saying, '' https://samueljohnson.com/refuge.html

In ROK, people are far less tolerant of phony patriotism than U.S. Also, people are far less 'polite' when it comes to husband defending his bitch of a wife than U.S. In U.S. a man is expected to defend his worthless, useless bitch of a wife when she got caught doing stupid stuff, and that is somehow to be excused if not admired! Not in ROK! Any man defending his worthless, useless, nasty bitch of a wife when she got caught wrong will be called, a soy boy, a bitch's slave, etc. Lesson: Do not marry a bitch. If already married to a bitch, divorce her in a hurry.
