I give you credit for not using 'forever'; too many addicts of false American exceptionalism think U.S. will stay #1 forever, and most of whom are so-called, 'libertarians'!   They all support MIC con game as well.  
  
U.S. will remain 'the leader' for a little while, but it will end by 2050.

Operationally, it won't be till around 2050, when ROK will become strong enough to defeat China alone, even on strategic offensive campaign, up to total war, including nuclear.  
  
That's when the alliance with U.S. will end; ROK does not want to get entangled with suboptimal, irrational U.S. foreign policies regarding Russia, Iran, and Palestine, but ROK has to contrast the cons and pros of the alliance with U.S. especially regarding China.  
  
I do know eventually ROK's grand strategy is to form strategic alliances with Russia, Iran, India, and supporting the Palestinians, up to arming and training them against IDF.  
  
After China is neutralized; ROK will support the Palestinians, arming and training them to defend themselves against IDF whether U.S. likes it or not.   ROK also will sell KF-21, and other advanced weapons, including hypersonic stealth smart cruise missiles to the Iranians, again whether U.S. likes it or not.  
  
ROK will build air/naval bases in Latin Americas, starting with Colombia, whether U.S. likes it or not.   ROK will be doing this all with the good will of the countries involved.  Most if not all of the Latin Americas will become ROK's allies, whether U.S. likes it or not, considering what ROK will have to offer, compared to what U.S. will have to offer.  
  
ROK will form a union with the west coast after the implosion of U.S. to take place after 2050, but before 2075.   ROK then will become the most important ally of the anti-Zionist patriots in former U.S. against the traitorous Pro-Zionist flunkies, backed by IDF sent by Israel, to turn the former U.S. into United Zionist Slave States.

You don't know the difference between hypersonic missile, vs hypersonic cruise missile!  
  
I've been talking about hypersonic cruise missile; they don't go into space, just staying close to the terrain; why so they are so hard to detect, and defend against.  
  
Hypersonic missile non-cruise, are merely ballistic missiles; that's not hypersonic cruise missile.  
  
USN cannot defend against hypersonic cruise missiles, much less hypersonic smart steath cruise missile pioneered by ROK.

WW2 stuff!!!     Hypersonic cruise missile at hypersonic speed develop plasma on the outer shell in the front, and cannot be detected from radar, not from the front.       By the time, air surveillance detects the hypersonic cruise missile, it would be too late; they will be moving in for the kill at hypersonic speed.     
  
As for hypersonic smart stealth cruise missile pioneered by ROK, they are not detectable not just from radar from anywhere, but also from infrared as well.   They can even vary speed in real time, on demand, by shutting off the ramjet engine, and on, extending range even further, up to 4 times that of the conventional hypersonic cruise missile, and making it that much more difficult to intercept even if the enemy somehow could predict the path, but not the timing of its arrival.  
  
ROK even developed naked visual stealth material; that means the enemy couldn't even see it coming, even within visual range.

In October 1992, Korea became the 43rd nation to join the submarine community. Since then South Korea and its Navy have demonstrated an outstanding capability with respect to submarine force construction, sustainment and operation.

In international exercises such as RIMPAC and Tandem Thrust, ROKN Type 209 submarines have demonstrated superiority in the detecting and attacking of powerful “enemies”.

In 1998 the ROKS LEE JONGMOO participated in RIMPAC (as did HMAS ONSLOW). It sunk 13 warships (150,000 tons) and was the only submarine to survive until the end of the exercise.

ROKS PARK WI participated in RIMPAC 2000 (HMAS WALLER participated also, with great success). Considering the 1998 RIMPAC achievements, “enemy” forces kept a close watch on PARK WI, making it a top priority for sinking during the exercise. However, she sank 11 enemy ships (96,000 tons) and, again, survived to the end of the exercise without being detected once by enemy forces. Admiral “Big Al” Konetzni, COMSUBPAC at the time, publicly praised the performance of the ROKN submarine.

In 2002 ROKS NA DAEYONG participated in RIMPAC (as did HMAS SHEEAN). It sank 10 enemy ships (100,000 tons) and, matching the trend, survived to the end of the exercise.

In 2004 it was ROKS CHANG BOGO’s turn to take part in RIMPAC (as did HMAS RANKIN). It successfully launched a total of 40 simulated torpedoes against 15 surface ships, including the nuclear aircraft carrier, USS JOHN C STENNIS, and her accompanying escorts. It survived until the end of the exercise without being counter detected and without mechanical issue.

ROKN submarine performance at these exercises has invited keen attention.

The ROKN have moved on to their next program, with three of a planned force of nine Type 214 submarines now commissioned. They have not looked backwards. Their submarine force doesn’t have any issues with respect to operating with the United States Navy, which they do on a more regular basis than our submarines.

RADM Doug McAneny said in 2009, “The Koreans are very strong allies in the region. They are frequent participants in many of the multi-lateral and bi-lateral exercises we do in the region and we do sub on sub work with them as well”.

The ROKN have been involved in numerous exercises and operations over the past few years from Australia, to Hawaii and beyond – and done very well.
