''Money is just a representation of resources.'' I don't want to sound too pedantic, but more accurate description would be ''Money is just a perception of representation of resources.'' ''As long as there are resources and the illusion of control and order, there will be soldiers to enforce the government's will.'' Yes, I agree, so long as there is that illusion; when people cannot purchase goods and service they need, using the currency issued by the government, on demand, in real time, that illusion is shattered. Hyperinflation will do that. I had already discussed when inflation becomes hyperinflation from macroeconomics perspective. https://soj.ooo/p/freethinkers/post/48635bc8a1722e425f0f3466de6baf36 So from consumer's perspective, when do they notice hyperinflation? When people receive payment in currency, they will either invest it and/or spend it. They want to be able to buy/invest in items within 'reasonable' period, from the time they receive currency (either salary, profit, bonus, etc), to the actual expected time they will spend that currency. Of course, it differs from people to people, but roughly they expect the purchasing power of that currency to hold, to most, or majority of that currency up to a year. When the currency won't hold its purchasing power as much as actual commodities they have to buy to live, day to day, such as food, then they want to buy food instead of holding that currency, even to the amount they don't need, just to make sure they will have food in the near future, so long as they expect to be able to consume that food, before they perish. That is how consumers notice the beginning of hyperinflation. When people start purchasing food even when they don't need it, just to make sure they will have enough food for the near future, the price for food will start skyrocketing; when they do, business people will not sell the food asap, as much as possible, instead will sell just enough before the food expire (still edible for a while), expecting the price will rise even further, so that they can make even more profit, meaning food will command more money, that is, another way of saying, money will become that much worthless relative to food. When this point is reached, not everyone will be able to buy food on demand, in real time, meaning some will start starving. When money/currency cannot buy food they need to survive, day to day, that currency becomes worthless. Food, a commodity becomes worth more than money/currency. When USD and/or crypto or whatever issued by the government cannot purchase food on demand, in real time, whatever is issued becomes worthless; cops will refuse the payment; they will demand something they can trade for food, on demand, in real time. When cops refuse the currency issued by the government, and go on strike, people will notice that immediately. They will observe what's going to happen next; criminals will have a holiday, with cops on strike. When government cannot find alternatives asap, when they cannot issue currency people can trade to buy food they need to survive, when they cannot pay cops to defend law and order, they will lose all credibility. ''Many of these starving citizens may even sign up if it means more rations.'' ...and how is the government going to make sure they will do their job? No background check, just anyone can walk in and become a cop? They won't have the time to do background check, and train the new cops. They are going to have to hire anyone, so long as they promise they will do the job. How do they know that? Many hardcore criminals will try to take advantage of the situation, and will be the first to apply to become cops, and they will use the badge to commit even more crimes. People will start hating/distrusting cops more than ever. When people hate/distrust cops more than ever before, how is the government going to retain credibility? People will refuse to cooperate with cops, when they see that cops are at best, unqualified, or at worst, robbers/thieves/rapists hiding behind the badge and government is making matters worse than ever before. People will flat out refuse to pay taxes, refuse to obey the laws they think is unjust. That will be the collapse/implosion of the government. Here is one example. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_Revolution

A correction to your correction, it isn't an illusion as long as you can trade your money for resources. "...and how is the government going to make sure they will do their job? No background check, just anyone can walk in and become a cop?" Yeah that's how they do it currently.

''A correction to your correction, it isn't an illusion as long as you can trade your money for resources.'' It is an illusion if you can't. ''Yeah that's how they do it currently.'' That is true for some small town police, and sometimes true for bigger cities, but just before the implosion, it will become even truer.
