Have you watched many interviews with people who have just killed another human? I love watching real interrogations and paying attention to body language. Some humans are cold blooded killers who have no remorse or feelings for their victim. Is that what consciousness is? Is having a conscious and a "soul" the same thing? Humans, humanity and human history interest me, its unfortunate more humans aren't interested.

I think that you may be conflating feelings, ethics, morals with the actual state of "being." I was referring to consciousness as: the quality or state of being aware of something within oneself or of an external object, state, or fact.

Okay? So you said external object. Humans are external objects to other humans. I've seen people murder and feel nothing about it, do those people have a conscious? Do you think all humans have the same consciousness? Going back to the original question, I don't know where this we call consciousness comes from. I guess nature and evolution gave us these things to direct behaviors and habits. Do mentally handicap people have a consciousness?
