Another belated reply: Real food that can't break the bank. The way I recall it we almost never ate out. When we did, maybe twice in my life before I turned 18, maybe: It was with a lecture about how expensive it was to eat out. Hard to believe my dad took us on a trip to Seattle where we went to the "worlds fair". I remember eating at a restaurant and being sad because the lemon meringue pie was revolting to me. God, how I wish I could have kept that disappointment to myself. Must of ate out a dozen times on that trip, but all I can remember was getting cold-cuts from a grocery store and Clover Club potato chips. Had similar experiences when I took the kids to Grand Canyon, desperately trying to save some bucks by cooking, literally anything over fires which they effusively loved. Oh. Yes. I'm a REALLY good cook. We saved hundreds of dollars cooking at roadside campsites and eating cold cuts from the supermarket. God, I'd give anything to do those trips all over again! Kids are grown now. "The child is grown; the dream is gone!"
