*This encounter, which he shared during the 2014 Monuments Men press conference, is the moment he credits with saving his life.* Bill Murray is an interesting character....some love and hate him. He was brilliant in a few of his movies....Groundhog Day, Caddyshack, etc... However, the line quoted above....is oddly romantic about the topic of suicide. One can appreciate the insights he had looking at the painting. But to suggest he was actually going to kill himself.....is disingenuous at best. Not sure how others feel about this kind of sentiment...but for what it is worth.....such statements don't seem to come from a position of truth, but rather, a position of wanting more attention.....and undeserved attention. No? And here we are. Peace.😇

I don’t quite see the red flags in how or why Bill Murray chooses to tell his story. Because he is already successful, I don't see an attention-seeking angle... it makes sense that he now feels secure enough to share something vulnerable from his past. Depression can be as simple as hyper-focusing on a negative outcome while losing sight of the bigger picture and future possibilities. The art depicts someone in a reality of hardship with unclear possibilities for improvement and seeing it could snap someone out of a narrow tunnel vision. I can accept the story at face value. Even if Bill Murray had years to polish his narrative, it can still relate, ground and or inspire

Yes....and you are making a good point, and the sentiment in his comment seems legit. However, he was/is making light of suicide....and that is my contention. He was vulnerable....not suicidal. When he says that painting saved his life....he is being romantic....not realistic. He is an actor.....they tend to be more dramatic than honest. Just an observation. The painting gave him an insight....that he was looking for....he wasn't looking to kill himself....he was looking for a reason....or many....to live. And he found one....and he told that story. That he overcame a difficult time in his life...is inspiration enough...without the extra drama. :) He is an inspiration to a lot of people.....we can both take his story at face value. It relates and inspires....but not so sure how grounded that pattern is. Peace.😇
