It's tempting to see it all as the machinations of mankind - and of course there are tons of machinations going on. But on the other hand it's pretty much indisputable that the development of technology proceeded according to opportunity and necessity. Those who did not seize the opportunity (or didn't have it to begin with) perished or were enslaved. So really this looks like a runaway train that no human truly has control over - and that includes everything culminating in an unprecedented global war. So yes, human activity but probably not human directed. Humanity got overtaken by its own devices - just as scripture warned.

I don't think we should be in a rush to get there. The slower it happens the more survivable it will be. We need time to adapt.
