Don't want to belittle this post, but some things seem to cry out for examination from a layered perspective.  
  
I't sort of the "We know they're lying, but they know we know they're lying, and they know that we know they're lying: But, do they know that we know that they know we know..."  
  
The Chinese have been shipping us compromised electrical equipment for decades. But, our guys have been presumably studying that compromised electrical equipment for decades and the sum total investment from our side had been to simply buy it.  
  
When our guys took Maduro they shut down the power grid that had been supplied by the Chinese basically by flipping a switch.  
  
What it looks like, to anyone paying the least bit of attention is that our most critical infrastructure is essentially just waiting for exploitation with no means of preventing those exploits.  
  
Which is exactly the scenario I'd wish for if my job was to protect that infrastructure.  
  
I'm not sure I'd bet that our grid is as vulnerable as they'd like you to believe, because the people they really want to believe in that vulnerability NEED to believe in that vulnerability or become more creative in developing those vulnerabilities.  
  
Bottom line: I'm betting that our guys are better than their guys.  
  
Better bottom line: You're a fool to believe you shouldn't take steps to prep for an extensive outage!  
  
You should be capable of weathering at least a year of outage, but you should take it in steps.  
  
Determine that you can actually, no doubt, survive a day. Then a week. Then a month. Then a year.  
  
And do so with the proviso that some other people will be figuring on taking whatever you've planned for your own security.  
  
And that means being prepared to actually kill  
  
Every.  
  
Single.  
  
Neighbor.  
  
I actually know a guy who's actual plan was to murder his neighbors for their provisions because I know a common friend that guy doesn't know I know who spilled the beans to our common friend.  
  
If I didn't know who that guy's neighbor's were I'd have no idea who that common friend was talking about.  
  
And, if it matters to anyone, that common friend was Jewish. And the neighbors were Mormon.  
  
And the guy planning to murder the Mormon neighbors was... neither.  
  
And the Mormons moved away.
