I can understand all of the macroeconomic reasons for supporting remittances. If there were a country with the funny money currency I could go invade to send money back here, I would. I cannot support it from a microeconomic standpoint. I have personally seen, gas stations for example - change ownership from huwhite Americans to dot Indians. The huwhite american ownership, for all of it's similar flaws, would at least spend money in the community. They would do fundraisers, parking lot bbq's, and they dressed their store up every holiday to make it fun and inviting. The indians take over and immediately all of the community support ceases. They're new immigrants so they get fancy business loans and are not required to pay taxes for the first year of the business - at which point they cycle the business to another family member to restart the clock of not paying any taxes, legally, somehow. This is setting aside their inability to rotate stock as to keep expired food from the shelves and discounting your change to steal money over time. I hate it.
