I think the goal is to take control of Kharg Island. If they do that they can blackm... leverage China. "**Kharg Island** is a strategically vital Iranian island located about 15–25 km off the country’s northern coast in the Persian Gulf. It serves as Iran’s primary oil export terminal, **handling 90% of the nation’s crude oil shipments**, with the capacity to load up to seven million barrels per day. The island’s deep-water ports allow supertankers to dock—capability that mainland Iranian ports lack—making it indispensable for oil exports, primarily to China"  But obviously there are obstacles in the way. Possibly a simultaneous attack on Khirg Island and Iran's side of the Strait.
