But recognizing that truth doesn’t erase the unique trauma caused by colonization, nor does it mean we should ignore how systems today still reflect those imbalances. History didn’t start in 1492 — agreed. But 1492 did mark a turning point that brought centuries of systemic dispossession, disease, and marginalization on a global scale. The goal shouldn’t be to weaponize victimhood or erase history to serve ideology. It should be to tell the full truth — the good, the bad, and the ugly — so we can build something better together. Not by guilt-tripping each other, but by being honest about how we got here. Unity doesn’t mean silence. And strength doesn’t come from pretending pain doesn’t exist. We heal through truth, not through denial. If we want to reclaim our identity, let it be one where courage and compassion walk side by side.

You're right about one thing—truth matters. And real healing requires the full picture, not a curated one. But here's the problem: When truth becomes selective, it stops being a path to healing and becomes a tool for division. Yes, 1492 was a turning point. But long before that, tribal conquest, ritual sacrifice, and displacement shaped this land. And long after that, millions of Americans—Black, White, Native, immigrant—bled, built, and believed their way into a shared identity. That matters too. You say the goal shouldn’t be to weaponize victimhood. I agree. But right now? That is what’s happening. Narratives are being funded, taught, and enforced that trap generations in grievance while extracting money, land, and guilt from people who had nothing to do with the past. That’s not healing. That’s hostage-taking dressed up as empathy. Unity doesn’t require silence. But it does require letting go of unending retribution and choosing something higher than tribal memory: truth, forgiveness, and purpose. And we’re not pretending pain doesn’t exist. We’re just refusing to let it define the future. If we’re reclaiming identity, let it be one based on truth and courage. A nation, not a patchwork of forever victims. A people willing to build something new—not live forever in what's broken. You want compassion? Speak the truth without conditions. And stop making unity something we have to apologize for.
