In no way is this true. Have you ever been there? In your head Cartels are not associated with the world slavemasters? Yeah right. Plus almost every atm you see is owned by a foreign bank, not a local one. You and the dictionary must have radically different definitions of the terms great and free. There are either cartel goons openly running stuff or there are national guard and army trucks loaded with government funded gun wielders patrolling the streets regularly with very few areas able to avoid both. Having to have military in fatigues strapped up on your corners of towns and cities doesn't look like any freedom I have ever seen. I don't even know where to begin dissecting the word great and it's relationship to modern day Mexico. source: I lived there for almost 2 years and speak Spanish.

I believe cartels do exist and are arms of the intel agencies. No sign of it in most of Mexico. They might pop up if you want to sell drugs or pimp. For normal people it's a non issue and something for TV and Movies, which those same intel organizations and propaganda outlets run. Of course there is banking here, but we have a real economy based on labor and supply and demand. A large percent have little to do with banking. We use cash primarily and there are cashier places to do transactions as needed.

I live in Mexico now and have for 6 years and Spanish is the only language spoken here except for the native language Nahuatl. In my town there is no military presence and I have never seen a hint of cartel influence. We have a normal police force but they mostly direct traffic. Just a happy small town that has festivals for almost a third of the year and very little crime. Are you referring to border towns or something? The border is much different than 90% of Mexico. This is a wonderful and free country with happy and capable people.
