BPM

I was Drummer/Lead Vocals lol.  3 person band, but I also have done just drums and just vocals for other bands.   
  
I have a  bunch of random percussion instruments as well as a midi keyboard witha  drumpad on it.  But I rarely dabble much these days.  I recently got more space to live in so I have been contemplating getting an electric drumkit or something like that to get back into it.  ^Dont really have the money right now^  Haven't really played more than a handful of times in the last 15+ years.  
  
Drums is something you have or you don't have imo, But **LOTS** of people have it.  If you find yourself tapping your fingers to the beat a lot, or smacking the steering wheel while you drive listening to a good song etc.  
  
There is a learning curve I took a handful of lessons as a kid, but I quit after 2 or 3, I found it much easier to just learn on my own and play by ear than to try to read sheet music and copy what other drummers do.   
  
Drumset is also a different level than just regular percussion.  Banging on 1 drum at a time is pretty straight forward, you can hit the drum harder or softer, or in the center of the drum vs the edge of the drum to create different types of sounds.   
  
But when you add in 7+ drums 4+ cymbals left and right hand, left and right foot, it taxes your nervous system for coordination.

Long term drumset players develop a thicker connection between the left and right hemispheres of the brain to accommodate this need for greater coordination between Left hand Right foot, Right Hand Left foot.  
  
This also is helped by things like Driving a car wit manual transmission so you are using both feet and hands at the same time.  Or even things like playing soccer and being good controlling your arms and using both feet at the same time.  Drumming is symbiotic with lots of this.
