I clicked on a link in that story. WTF https://www.themirror.com/news/us-news/parent-accused-torture-newborn-death-1497803 At some point, society has to stop pretending every dangerous person is a repair project. Some people can be rehabilitated. Fine. Rehabilitate them. But repeat murderers, torturers, child killers, serial predators, and the permanently violent should not become lifetime public maintenance contracts. And insanity should not automatically save someone from the death penalty. If a rabid dog attacks people, nobody holds a hearing about whether the dog had a difficult childhood. Nobody asks if the dog understood the moral weight of biting someone. The issue is simpler: it is dangerous, uncontrollable, and cannot be safely returned to the world. That is the argument. Not revenge. Not rage. Public safety. Finality. Resource allocation. Society has limited money, guards, courts, doctors, prison beds, and attention. Those resources should be used to improve society, protect decent people, help victims, raise children, build infrastructure, and support people who actually can be helped. The modern system often treats violent offenders like glitchy software: just keep patching them until the next victim report comes in. At some point, the patch notes are irrelevant. If someone is permanently dangerous, whether through evil, insanity, brain damage, or whatever other explanation, society should not be required to warehouse that danger forever at public expense. Rabid dogs get put down. Human beings deserve due process. But after due process, if the facts show a person is an unfixable, lethal threat, capital punishment is not barbarism. It is society finally admitting that mercy for the predator can become cruelty to everyone else.

This is basically my POTUS speech. What you typed above... We need a strong court system to protect the innocent.

I feel like the "courts"(human judges) see so much of this, that it is almost daily they are shocked into complacency. Karmelo got 35 years and may serve 17 of them. He will come out of jail, more of a threat then going into jail.
