It may have lost the physical people, yes, but their lessons and discoveries live on and more. We have built upon the knowledge they gave us and so in a way they have never truly left. What they gave has been used and expanded. Will we have to progress to a more machine state? Not necessarily, we wont need to become full machines but I do expect us to be interfaced with technology, just to keep up with the day to day life of the future and the information required to utilize the advanced technology. Machine/manufactured organs? I'm all for it. What is the downside when it is the same or better than the original organ? Vanity? Cloud minds I'm a little put off by. Vulnerable to attack from physical bad actors while your consciousness sits helpless in the cloud. Not to mention, what does it even mean to have your mind in the cloud? If you upload into the cloud and its a copy of your conciousness then it isnt actually you, its another you. If it is a direct "stream" into the cloud, leaving behind an empty shell, then what are the rules/experiences when you are uploaded? How does thinking work? You are now essentially an AI - can someone set your parameters? What if you arent afforded sufficient hardware to, lets say, form new thoughts or opinions? You are exactly as you were when you arrived and thats it for eternity, no growth, cant afford it/dont want to waste the server space. All interesting things to discuss of course.
