The first question I'd ask is: What problem are you trying to solve?

Building your own server can be incredibly useful, but useful for what? Are you trying to host your own websites, store files, run applications, improve privacy, reduce dependence on commercial services, or simply learn how computers and networks work?

Reticulum is a different consideration. It's designed for decentralized communication, including situations where conventional internet infrastructure isn't available.

I'm a big believer in learning how technology works, but I also believe in choosing the right tool for the job. Running your own infrastructure comes with responsibilities, including security, updates, backups and troubleshooting.

If your goal is education, absolutely, build a server. You'll learn a tremendous amount. But if you're looking for a practical solution, start by identifying the problem. Otherwise, you might spend a lot of time and money building an elaborate solution to a problem you never had.
