I have been really interested in every kind of electric mobility for a while too. I don't have one, but think about building something often, and probably will. A lot of places are starting regulate and hassle ebike riders, but overall I agree with you. I like the idea of being able to get around if gas isn't available. The ideas I have been thinking about are a 150cc gas scooter converted to an electric scooter, ebike, and an electric powered dune buggy/rail buggy. The dream would be to get a crashed Tesla, and use the parts to do the conversion of the buggy. Something like this.
