The reason you feel and I feel too, that way is ROK looks at every potential competition, and see what they are working on, and whether it's credible/plausible or not. ROK is not easily deterred by vaporware; ROK has already decided both Elon and China are pathological bullshiters. ROK pays no attention what they say at PR event, unlike @gracejoy. They do watch what they do. They look at every relevant potential parameter, scalability, mass production, real life plausibility, the cheapest price they can bring down, while providing optimal benefits to real people, not just some scientists in lab, not necessarily the cheapest, not not necessarily the most benefits. That's where they will most customers, most profits. Japanese obsesses about the highest quality regardless of price, Chinese cheapest regardless of low quality; Americans most technologically advanced innovation, regardless of price.
