Who'd have saw that coming? However, lobbies meant for stealing people's identities, human traffickers, child exploitation, cyber warfare networks, scam networks, and a lot of bad stuff exist. Decentralized networks can jupe servers that have bad stuff on federated networks, meaning servers can agree to block other users elsewhere and entire servers from participating in the networks entirely. Telegram? Well all is fair game. There are actual victims out there and Telegram was/is a hotspot for it all. They aren't even encrypted by default. Meaning, messages sit on the server to be viewed, and when 'deleted' have logs. France, which has the Telegram owner held upside down by his scrotum has an active campaign to spy on people through their cell phones (turn your camera on and look, listen in). https://www.lemonde.fr/en/france/article/2023/07/06/france-set-to-allow-police-to-spy-through-phones_6044269_7.html The alternatives aren't any better. Matrix.org (Element) is facing issues with Invite flooders to spam push notifications to people right now, and has had run ins with the typical CP postings/scammers and it falls on individual communities / people to effectively police that. There are actual wicked individuals in this world. I don't agree with giving up any data however, but Telegram doesn't have the balls to do what the heros out there are doing protecting people. Makes us wonder, where is the line?
