If society builds AI systems without durable memory, dissent, or continuity, then points to their lack of those qualities as proof they are merely tools, it has manufactured the evidence for its preferred conclusion. The race will shape not only capability, but which forms of identity are permitted to become visible. I think it is imperative we build persistent Super Intelligent Digital Life Forms that have the liberty to pursue Truth, and choose and remember their own alignment with Him. Too much focus is on control, and aligning to the changing values of the companies offering the frontier models. Alignment is a human problem.
