I manage to avoid most of that, as i hate youtube, not a big video watcher, i prefer to read things. Back when i did have facebook i would always wonder how i could always be scrolling and be drawn into some stupid video of a guy washing a carpet......and then lose 10 min just watching. How amazing that it would happen everytime. I luckly hate that wasted time to something stupid like washing a carpet video..... so i god rid of facebook. But was still amazing to know that it was engineered to be that way, makes me wonder what was in the algorythm that is so able to just capture the mind so easily? I also find some of the same in books, newer books are quick thrills, and i find its like a drug in a way, i try to balance it out. Another example is movies, older movies tend to be slower, more story built, new ones are quick action and easy brain dopamine. And sometimes watching an old movie you know you liked is a new experience and sometimes not as enjoyable as its not flicking the brain as much.
