Reddit’s rise and fall stem from the same thing: its scale. Forums used to be scattered across the internet, offering niche communities and diverse conversations. Reddit brought them all together into one massive platform, which was initially amazing. But now, its size has become its biggest flaw. Curation, for example.. The algorithm is easily manipulated, making the "top content" of the day feel arbitrary and unreliable. Trash content often rises to the top, not because it’s what users genuinely prefer, but because it drives engagement. It’s one thing for shitposts to dominate because users enjoy them, but I don’t buy that. Why the front page is what it is anymore, I don't even care to know. My initial instinct is to blame the 'users' i see making/replying posts for being stupid, and I'm trying to challenge my initial instincts with such things. At its core, Reddit has become an echo chamber, a data farm, and a propaganda machine. I am 150% ready to experience a smaller community of people who are all here for a somewhat common view of the world. Also, smaller communities seem to be the only way to possibly be able to ensure that we're talking to real people, although it will always be a challenge. One thing is for sure, I am away the other side exists, and I don't care what they think anymore.
