Is there a book for atheists to follow? The word you are looking for is dictator. Stalin and Mao set themselves up as gods. Government was god.

That's the card I expected you to pull. Those people set themselves up as replacement gods. Huh. How predictable. Is that what they said? Don't think so. Christians claim to believe in god, which is all you need to condemn them for being responsible for what other people who claimed to believe in god did centuries in the past. Unless Stalin and Mao are recorded as claiming to be gods, as usual, you don't have the slightest degree of support for your declarations according to the logic you present. And a good part of how they were able to be so brutal is because they managed to suppress any rational against that brutality by claiming it was morality in service of a god that doesn't exist. In short, they took away the religious reason for being decent and replaced it with the idea that being decent was superstitious nonsense. They were just like you.
