I was driving through Connecticut last year, allegedly carrying a completely hypothetical .357 revolver, when I encountered what appeared to be a migratory herd of approximately 100 ATV and dirt bike riders. These weren't merely ignoring traffic laws. They were treating the double yellow line as a decorative suggestion. Traffic lights were apparently being interpreted as performance art. The cops were standing there watching the whole thing like they had been assigned to observe a nature documentary. At that moment I realized something important. The .357 was completely inadequate. Not because anyone was attacking me. Not because I was in danger. Because I suddenly felt under-equipped for the apocalypse. You spend years thinking, "A revolver should handle most reasonable situations." Then Connecticut presents you with a Mad Max audition featuring 100 dirt bikes and you start mentally upgrading your shopping list. ".357? Hmm." "Maybe an AR-15." Five minutes later: "Perhaps a crew-served weapon." Ten minutes later: "Do they make civilian anti-aircraft systems?" By the time I got home I was pricing decommissioned naval destroyers. The real lesson is that once society reaches the point where a hundred people can ignore every traffic law in broad daylight while the police watch, your brain immediately jumps from 'personal protection' to 'I wonder what the ammunition budget for a small European country looks like.' Again, for legal purposes, this is a joke. Mostly.
