Never worked for the administration but I did Student Teacher Aid a couple classes senior year of high school, ironically my math scores were low and an assistant principle approached me with the two teachers from the classes I excelled in. To help me with graduation and college entrance in exchange for tutoring fellow students. What was called at the time Typing class, and Computer Art.(I also don't even think this was involved with the gate program, maybe just a teacher helping me out) What They had us do was called G&T - Gifted & Talented program. It wasn't a class, but an after school program, like once a week for a month or 2 at times. It wasn't really presented as GATE, and as a kid it felt just like something you had to do for school, when you're a kid you just follow orders. I really don't remember all to much specifically about it other than the violin thing which seemed weird. This was during elementary school which was interesting. Of note would be when I was in high school the Asst. Principle did introduce me a couple times to a sketchy guy from the Air Force wearing full Air Force Dress Uniform. Telling me to join the air force and be a fighter pilot because I had good eyesight and could read to the bottom of the eye chart. I also have a relative that was a pilot in the air force, so this could also be unrelated from GATE, just sharing my story.
