We had warmer weather than normal this spring, and drought conditions.  Everything in the irrigation zones is thriving, but dead everywhere I look around me.  UV index here at 8k feet elevation is high, and I think you are right that is higher this year.  I will try to see notes from last year when I have time and compare to what we have now when measured.

Borax is the best. Great for ants too make you own Terro. Have you ever used Neem oil? Spray right after flowers.
