It's challenging, and could definitely be dangerous but as you start out, as long as you don't go trying anything unrealistic, the most that will happen is the board will slip out from under you until you get used to the balance, skateboarding actually helped me learn to fall safely. But for the most part he will get occasional skinned knees and elbows, just make sure he wears a helmet because your head is everything and you need to protect it. Otherwise I've been skateboarding since I was seven and found it to be a great escape and way to meet friends and like-minded individuals, especially if he's not the preppy, popular kid, there's an entire community of young active kids who find a network of other quiet, introverted, outcasts frankly, and they are all super welcoming and accepting, to this day when I go to the skate park and bring my kids I am almost impressed by how willing the other kids are of all ages to teach younger kids, or encourage them despite their skill set. There's something about the skateboard community that as long as you are willing to get on a board, no matter how terrible you may be once on it, it earns a kind of respect mutually among other skaters mostly because they remember how scary and intimidating it could be when they were also just learning. So theyre all ways wiling to compliment you, encourage you, and pick you up if you fall down while also asking if you are okay and being genuinely concerned. Otherwise, I think it's a great thing for kids to get into especially seeing how the only outdoor activity this generation seems to flock to are those e-bikes which honestly seems to attract a bad crowd, maybe not everywhere, but in my town There's a whole gang of middle school age punks who ride e-bikes around doing wheelies blocking traffic, flipping people off, and even one time pulling a man off his motorcycle and stomping on him while one of them stabbed him with some tiny blade, or screwdriver, resulting in only superficial wounds, but I rather encourage my kids to get outside and obsessively practice and progress at skateboarding, and finding a friend or two to go out with and skate opposed to allowing them to have a $3,000 ebike which is modeled to look like a dirt bike, and just become these masked, shiesty wearing, nike jump suit punks who litterally are intentionally going out and making the community hate them.

Wow, thank you very much! This is all like Japanese to me but it's so cool how passionate you are. I love learning about what gets you fired up! It sounds like you are in good company and I hope my son finds an accepting and encouraging place in this world like you did! 😁

P.S. if you do ever decide to let him skate, buy an actual deck, not some board from walmart or target, like go to any local skate shop or zummiez and have them help you putting it together, id suggest asking for the cheapest, most affordable parts, cos some of the parts can get costly, but until you know if its even for him, spend the majority of the money on an actual skateboard, theyre high quality, 8 ply of wood, and he wont be self conscious of the deck around more expierienced skateboarders, also the graphics are appealing to a young boy and he'll be more excited to have a deck he choose, they can be anywhere from 35 to 70 dollars, and then you could just get the standard parts, independent is a well known and affordable truck company, wheels, doesn't matter, especially while new to skating, and bearings are pretty important but again, until hes comfortable on the board, cheaper quality bearings will ensure he doesnt go to fast, and they will be affordable for you. And any hardware is fine and grip tape is eventually a preference thing but for now, the cheapest one they have willl do. Alll together it would be probably $140 and as long as he doesnt leave it out in the rain it could last him for years, and even if the board was to snap (which didnt happen till i was an adult and weighed more than 110 pds) but even if it breaks, you can just get a new deck and swap all the parts from the broken deck onto a new one. Relatively cheap hobby with hours of entertainment and excitement as well as pride as you get better and better

One last thing, im gonna buy one of these soon, they look sweet, and theyre super safe, you can do indoors, and it helps with balance, may be an alternative you could consider and if your son is to take to it and seems to really enjoy it, then a would recommend taking the leap and getting him a board 😊 but im biased and heres a less talented person using one
