How many secret societies are there? You don't think they have plans? How about religious zealots? How many religions look down on others for not believing like they do? Yes, lots of humans look at other humans as a way to get ahead. Lots of humans look at other humans as idiots who should be used.

Couldn't agree more - The problem explodes when fools / traitors are (s)elected to office - repeatedly. Only a fool or a participant would deny fact.
