I believed in God (AND sadly, the Psyops of this World, self-reliance, governments, meritocracy etc.) but my journey had to take me to recognize it was to 'Believe in God Alone', this is what Abrahamic Monotheism looks like. God governs everything (all of it - everything that exists). I am not independent of what God is doing/or has done, but dependent on Him for my health, wealth etc. Accordingly, my freedom of choice has to (1.) call upon Him alone and patiently wait for help, guidance etc. Or (2.) I call upon in addition to Him (and this is what idols look like - Polytheism) typically due to impatience. And (3.) those who disbelieve will call upon other than Him - rivals (for they cannot see how He manifests in their existence and encompasses everything they do - Polytheism).

chp 26 ver 5-9 Whenever a reminder from the Most Gracious comes to them, that is new, they turn away in aversion. Since they disbelieved, they have incurred the consequences of their heedlessness. If you look for them, the truths are all around you, coming from every angle. Problem is, truth and fact are different things.  
  
If we think literally and factually, there is not and never has been a land of the free and home of the brave. What a ludicrous concept! Still true though, because it's worth believing in.  
  
You included a quote from the book of Job to make your point. Were you being untruthful? No. Were you ignorant of the meaning behind the book of Job? Probably.  
  
Job's suffering is perceived as justice delivered for his sins, and while great effort is made by people to interpret the story as actions undertaken by Satan in opposition to God, it's quite clear that everything that happens is God's will with Job being blameless.  
  
In chapter 42 Job's friends are rebuked harshly by God for not speaking the truth about Him as Job has done throughout.  
  
But, I can't think you're being untruthful until you reveal a deeper understanding of the subject even as I recognize that you're still being true to the point you're trying to make.  
  
Factually: You're wrong. Truthfully, perhaps you're making a valid point, though I'd discourage using this particular angle of attack to do so.

Did our country have slavery? YES. And it got better. Did our country do all sorts of heinous things? YES. And it got better. It's getting better right now.  
  
During the 20th century, virtually the entire world got better, not because the rulers of the various countries stopped doing bad things, but because they started needing to at least pretend they were not doing bad things.  
  
It's difficult to dispense with illusion, virtually impossible I believe. Instead we trade one illusion for another and generally blending elements of the previous illusion into the new one. The illusion it would appear is in the idea that we KNOW objective truth without bending it to our subjective whims.  
  
In my opinion, just about the best we can hope for is to create a more useful illusion worth sharing with others.
