Egregores to me represent a modern conception of the egrḗgoroi/Nephelim, the result of the combination of human and angelic forces, physically in Genesis 6 and mentally in modern mysticism. The term is obviously linguistically linked to the Greek translation of Genesis and on the conceptual level as well. Most likely this is developed from the story recounted in Enoch where the Watchers teach humanity the forbidden arts. Interestingly, Enoch presents Azazel as a being while in Leviticus it is the place where the Scapegoat is sacrificed. Quite easy to see how the tradition could be changed from a sacrifice TO Azazel to a sacrifice AT Azezel. Also, as the scapegoat represents the sins of the tribe which have not been atoned for otherwise, it's pretty easy to imagine it changing from a payment for the forbidden arts to an atonement for the forbidden arts. While Job is arguably the oldest literary story, Genesis may still represent the oldest story(s) and the joining of the "sons of god" with the daughters of man is recounted as an ancient story when it was written.
